Shape your own modulation magic with Cableguys Shaperbox 3
Cableguys, the company behind the Halftime, have updated its flagship Shaperbox plugin to version 3. At the heart of the plugin remains up to 9 modulation modules, spanning the following effects:
- Time: time-based modulation (speed up/ slow down)
- Drive: distortion and saturation
- Noise: noise shaping
- Filter: analog filter
- Liquid: phaser/ flanger - this is the only new module introduced with version 3
- Crush: bit-crushing
- Volume: volume modulation (typical for side chaining)
- Pan: stereo panning modulation
- Width: stereo width modulation
Beyond the addition of LiquidShaper, the main new features include:
- Easier waveform editing: improved manipulation of modulations for creating curved, stepped, or ramped FX patterns.
- Audio triggers: trigger any of the 9 modules through any audio track as a modulation source
- External side chain view: display external side chain directly in the plugin
- New browser: improved browser with 600 presets
Our View
I am a fan of Cableguys. VolumeShaper has been my go-to side chain plugin for many years, rather than XFer LFO Tool or Nicky Romero's Kickstart, which was recently updated to version 2.
The updates should provide more flexibility and better integration into sessions, providing even more control and flexibility to set up anything from subtle to savage modulations. I was hoping for new modulation modules beyond LiquidShaper but for the $89 introductory price, which lasts until after Black Friday, this looks even better value than it has been.
If you are not convinced yet, Cableguys offer a generous time unlimited free trial of Shaperbox 3. The trial is only limited by not being able to save user presets, and allowing only one plugin instance per project.
